Glass Reactor
Introduction

De Dietrich Process Systems plans and constructs equipment and plants for the entire field of reaction and thermal separation process engineering. With this experience gained over the years, De Dietrich Process Systems has a comprehensive know-how available in the sector of processing highly aggressive and pure media. The glass reactors convey this knowledge to the user. The solutions shown are fully developed and standardized types of equipment or equipment specifically adapted to a certain process.

High operational reliability and lowest maintenance costs are the outstanding features of glass plants from De Dietrich Process Systems. Our flexible modular construction system with standardized components of borosilicate glass 3.3 allows individual as well as standardized solutions.

In combination with other corrosion resistant materials such as glass lined steel, PTFE, PFA and SiC economical and reliable installations can be realized. The reliable QVF® SUPRA-Line flanges system ensured additional safety and maintenance-free operation. Every installation can be rapidly modified and dismantled if required. All components can be reused without any problem.

Furthermore the material glass offers a unique combination of advantages:

  • universal corrosion resistance
  • smooth, nonporous surface reduces deposits and incrustations
  • catalytic inertness: Reactions remain uninfluenced by the material
  • physiologically and ecologically safe (100% recycling is possible)
  • vacuum stability
  • transparency, enables visual process control
  • complete emptying
  • modular design, easily modifiable

Glass Reactors - The heart of a syntheses plant

There is a large number of different types of glass reaction vessels available due to different the types of heating. Jacketed glass reactors up to 100l and reactors with immersion heaters up to 200l can be heated and cooled with a thermo fluid whereas spherical reactors up to 500l equipped with a electrical heating mantel can only be heated. For a reliable control of a reaction reliable mixing and reproducible heat transfer are as essential as tight operation towards the atmosphere. As the different requirements in this respect are given by the process to be carried out different types of stirrers and industrial stirrer drives are provided by De Dietrich Process Systems to suit these different needs.

Especially advantageous is the OPTIMIX® baffle system with baffles fixed to the inside of the vessel to improve mixing considerably without blocking space for standard baffles fixed to the reactor cover. OPTIMIX baffle system is available for all cylindrical glass reactors down to DN200. Since the OPTIMIX baffle system for glass reactors is of the same type as for the glass-lined reactors the scale up from small pilot scale glass reactors up to huge production glass-lined reactors is eased.

Auxiliary Equipment and Modular Design

The glass reactors are equipped according to the application with additional glass equipment such as feed and product vessels, distillation columns and condensers as well as the required instrumentation.

This equipment is assembled as far as possible from standardized components – be easily modified and readily adapted to any task. Additionally the use of standardized components from stock offers the advantage of fast availability.

Depending on the size of the reaction systems they come pre-installed in their support structure as a modular system ready to be connected to the required utilities.
